On June 13, under the guidance of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Human Resources Development Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Chinese Agricultural Society sponsored the 2024 major hazard invasive species (hollow lotus grass) prevention and control activities kicked off in Qingshen County, Meishan City, and experts from all over the country and heads of relevant departments at all levels attended the opening ceremony of the event.

The guests successively came to Hongxu Orchard, Honghua Village, Qingzhu Street, Qingshen County, Snakeberry Alternative Planting Demonstration Site (Southwest Invasive Alien Species Comprehensive Prevention and Control Research Demonstration Base) and Qingshen Grain and Oil Science and Technology Transformation Center to observe the chemical control and alternative planting effect of hollow lotus seed grass, the demonstration effect of alternative planting of snakeberry and the research and transformation of invasive alien species specimens and prevention and control technology.

In the afternoon session, Zhang Guoliang, a researcher at the Institute of Environmental Development of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, gave a report on "Identification and Prevention and Control Technology of Invasive Alien Weeds"; Dr. Zhao Haoxiang from the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences conducted an in-depth analysis on the forward-looking risk prediction and early warning of major invasive alien species and the support of industry prevention and control. Zhou Xiaogang, a researcher at the Institute of Plant Protection of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, shared "the occurrence and prevention and control of major agricultural invasive alien species in Sichuan".

In addition, the experts at the meeting also exchanged views on "promoting the prevention and control of invasive alien species in agriculture and ensuring food security and biosecurity", "four to four promotions" to prevent and control invasive alien species, and "strengthening monitoring, early warning and technical demonstration, and making every effort to do a good job in the prevention and control of agricultural invasive alien species".

Through on-site visits, special reports and exchange speeches, the event comprehensively and deeply discussed the prevention, control and management of major invasive species such as hollow lotus seed, and provided strong support for the further development of related work.

In recent years, Qingshen County has built a weed scientific research achievement transformation base, which is an important part of the network of the Plant Protection Institute of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and is also the only scientific research base in the province with weed-based and well-equipped facilities. In the future, Qingshen will intensify the prevention and control of invasive alien species, strengthen cooperation with scientific research platforms, strengthen the related work of hollow lotus grass, conduct in-depth research and promotion, and devote itself to integrating the green prevention and control technology system of hollow lotus grass.
