On April 12, the reporter learned from the press briefing of the 43rd Shanxi Province Bird Loving Week held by the Shanxi Provincial Forestry and Grassland Bureau that after years of protection, the "family tree" of Shanxi's biodiversity has been further enriched. Among them, Shanxi Province Bird Brown Horse Chicken spread from Luliang Mountain to Taihang Mountain, Zhongtiao Mountain and other places, and its footprints are all over the province; 19 species of birds, including red-crowned cranes and Chinese mergansers, have set new records in Shanxi; Rare birds such as jade-banded sea eagles, great bustards, and relict gulls frequently appear in the public's field of vision.
Yue Kuiqing, a member of the party group and deputy director of the Shanxi Provincial Forestry and Grassland Bureau, said that migratory birds are an important part of the natural ecosystem. The survey results show that there are 543 species of wild animals in Shanxi Province, including 428 species of birds, including 22 species of national first-class key protected birds, 72 species of national second-class key protected birds, and 133 species of provincial key protected birds.
"Over the years, Shanxi Province has been committed to wildlife conservation, and has built a technical support system for wildlife conservation." Yue Kuiqing introduced that in terms of technical support system, the Shanxi Provincial Forestry and Grassland Bureau has carried out grid investigation and monitoring by increasing the deployment of infrared cameras and fixed transect plots year by year, and has achieved good results.
At the same time, Shanxi Province has also actively strengthened cooperation with Beijing Forestry University, Northeast Forestry University, Shanxi University and other scientific research institutes, increased scientific and technological support, helped the protection of wild animals and plants, and provided a more suitable living environment for rare and endangered birds to inhabit, winter and reproduce in Shanxi Province. Targeted measures such as in-situ conservation and ecological restoration should be adopted to promote the recovery and growth of rare and endangered bird populations in the wild, effectively get rid of the threat of extinction, and rescue and protect endangered species.
Wang Di, chief engineer of the Shanxi Provincial Forestry and Grassland Bureau, said that in 2023, Shanxi Province will launch the construction of a wildlife protection data management system to promote the innovative application of digital technology in bird protection. This year, Shanxi Province will add modern technical means such as bird rings and animal collars to further improve the accuracy and efficiency of wildlife survey and monitoring, and accelerate the construction of wildlife protection data management system.
"The construction of the wildlife protection data management system needs to collect, summarize, clean and excavate all kinds of wildlife protection data to form an intelligent wildlife protection system in Shanxi Province, which is expected to be completed within the year." Brother Wang said.
